Healthy Dessert - Purple Yam

If you're looking for an easy to prepare dessert that is also healthy, purple yam (also known as ube) is a good option. Purple yam is a starchy root vegetable that is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and potassium. Since the yams are naturally (just mildly) sweet, there's no added sugar in this dessert.

It's easy - just bake it

Wrap a couple of purple yams in aluminum foil and bake in a 350F oven for 1 hour. Check for doneness with a fork. If the yam is still hard on the touch, put it back in the oven for another 15 mins. When the yams are soft, peel the skin off and cut into pieces.

You can eat it as a snack when the yam is still warm.

Or treat it as a dessert by adding milk/almond milk/soya milk when the yam cools down. To get the pretty pastel purple colour, smash a small piece of yam with some milk.

If you have a blender, puree the mixture to make a creamy and smooth dessert. Either way, enjoy a beautiful and delicious dessert that is free of colouring, added sugar and fat.
